Last season was a down year for the Aggies. Head coach Jo Evans hopes to improve on last seasons mediocre 28-27 record this year.
For this years team to improve returning pitchers, Kendall Potts (3.14 ERA, 12-13) and Payton McBride (3.49 ERA, 9-7) will need to step up their game in the circle and hope that one of the new incoming freshmen can jump right in and be productive in the pitching rotation.
The Aggies offensive game has centered around speed on the bases and earning their runs a hit at a time. With that philosophy their pitchers need to keep the games low scoring for them to win more games this year.
Texas A&M does have some power in their bats thanks to Payton McBride who is a member of the pitchers who can also hit club. Last year she ended the season with a .329BA and five homeruns. Returning outfielder Kelbi Fortenberry hit for a .343 BA last year along with 26 RBIs. Once on the bases she also had eleven stolen bases. The Aggies also picked up Florida State transfer Makinzy Herzog (.316BA) who offers speed on the bases with thirteen stolen bases last year.
Hopefully coach Evans will work her magic on this year’s team and get them all rowing in the same direction otherwise this could be another rough year for the Aggie faithful.
