Texas Softball 2022 Preview

Texas

Texas hopes to continue their success from last season when they finished with a 43-14 record and made it to the NCAA Stillwater Super Regional before getting eliminated by the eventual National Champion’s Oklahoma.

This year’s roster will include ten players returning from last year. Among them is All-American Janae Jefferson who does it all with a .446 batting average and 14 stolen bases last season. Along with senior’s Lauren Burke (.302 BA 33 RBIs) and catcher power hitter Mary Iakopo (.322 BA, 16 HR’s, 45 RBIs).

With returning junior pitcher Shea O’Leary (16-6 W-L, 1.82 ERA, 25 starts, 15 complete games, six shutouts, 121 strikeouts) in the circle it usually doesn’t take many runs to win a game. O’Leary will have help this season from Fresno State All-American fifth-year transfer right-handed pitcher Hailey Dolcini (22-5 W-L, 1.12 ERA, 259 strikeouts). Also joining the team is former N.C. State sophomore left-handed pitcher Estelle Czech (four wins in 2021, 3.14 ERA, 39 strikeouts) and former Houston junior right-handed pitcher Logan Hulon (10 career wins, 3.54 career ERA, 107 career strikeouts).

Texas also has a highly rated freshman class with several players who might be ready to step in and help the program immediately.

With the mix of returning players, talented transfers, and a strong incoming group of freshmen Texas head coach Mike White will have a lot of talented players to work with this season. As usual, Texas is in the mix of names being mentioned to be Big 12 Conference Champions this year along with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Texas should also make a deep run come NCAA Tournament time this year.
