Duke, NC State and Virginia Tech Claim ACC Softball Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke graduate infielder Jameson Kavel and NC State senior third baseman Logan Morris have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Co-Players of the Week, while Virginia Tech freshman pitcher Emma Lemley earned ACC Pitcher of the Week.

The ACC softball weekly awards are voted on by a panel from both the schools and the conference office.

Kavel hit .556 (5-for-9) with five hits, two home runs and three RBI in a weekend sweep at Georgia Tech. She also scored four runs, hit a double and drew a walk. The graduate student reached several milestones on the weekend, including her 100th collegiate RBI and 150th collegiate run scored. Kavel was a triple shy of the cycle in the series opening win over the Yellow Jackets. Her strong play helped Duke to its third consecutive ACC sweep, dating back to last season.

Morris led the way in a 4-1 week for NC State, highlighted by a series win against Syracuse to open ACC play. She compiled a .438 batting average and led the team with seven hits, three home runs and eight RBI with a 1.000 slugging percentage for the week. Additionally, she recorded an on-base percentage of .500. In the win over Elon, Morris tallied her second career multi-homer game to lead the Wolfpack to a 6-4 win.

Lemley was stellar in her ACC debut last weekend, throwing a complete game shutout over No. 9 Clemson. It marked the Hokies first shutout of a top-10 team in 14 years. She gave up just three hits in 7.0 innings, striking out 10 batters. Lemley also earned the save in the series finale, coming on in the seventh to record the final three outs, striking out two. She ended the weekend with a 0.88 ERA and a .138 batting average in 8.0 innings with 12 strikeouts and one earned run.
