Alabama Softball announces two more transfers, Lauren Esman and Emma Broadfoot


Alabama softball announced the addition of left-handed utility Michigan senior Lauren Esman its 2023 roster, joining the Crimson Tide after three seasons at Big Blue.

Esman played in 40-plus games in each of the last two seasons with the Wolverines and 14 in her COVID-shortened 2020 freshman campaign. She was a .277 career hitter, posting a personal-best 31 hits, 17 runs scored and 20 RBIs in 2022. She was the 2019 Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year and Michigan Miss Softball as a senior at Gull Lake High School, posting a 0.42 ERA with 341 strikeouts over 148.2 innings.

The left-hander has also found her stride in the circle in two summers with the Florida Gulf Coast League, winning the league’s Pitcher of the Year award this season with 55 strikeouts over 47.2 innings pitched with just nine runs allowed and five walks.

The Crimson Tide has also added junior Emma Broadfoot. The Danville, Ala., native hit .344 with 16 home runs over two seasons at UNA.

A native of Danville, Ala., Broadfoot hit .344 over her career with 95 hits, including 20 doubles and 16 home runs for the Lions. She was an ASUN Conference All-Freshman team honoree in 2021 and First Team All-Conference honoree in 2022, setting UNA Division I single-season records in hits, RBIs, doubles and walks. She had 20 multi-hit games and 16 multi-RBI games for the Lions in 2022.
